Queen of Spring: Fashion Photography
“Queen of Spring” fashion photo shoot for theModeCode reveals vibrant spring fashion trends at the Hortus Botanical Gardens in Amsterdam, March 2015.
In contrast to our “Among the Cacti” series (where the model blended with the environment) in our queen of spring shoot our model Winke pops out in vivid colors against the natural greenery of the backdrop. For theModeCode productions, I usually choose the location and Rebeka does the styling. This combination always seems to have beautiful results in terms of color.
When creating the photos, I focused on using light and depth of field to separate Winke from the busy background and make her stand out as the focal point of the images. This gives the “coming of the forest” effect I was going for. This location has a unique lighting situation as a result of being located inside a green house. The lighting was tricky as it came from many directions and the plants created many shadows. I used my canon speed light inside a westcott rapidbox to fill the shadows and create one more dominant lighting direction. I was pleased with how this technique created a more intensional lighting effect and gave a suitable commercial feeling to this fashion shoot.
We had an amazing day shooting “Queen of Spring” with Winke from Innocence Modeling Agency, (whom we met before during the 10 DAYS DOWNTOWN – Amsterdam Fashionweek) and being surrounded by nature in De Hortus Botanicus!
Winke was wearing: pink chiffon blouse from Esprit; pink short-sleeve chiffon bolero & long fuchsia blazer with lace decoration from Vera Mont; purple satin tulip skirt from F&F; nude suede high-heels from Bershka; floral jewellery from H&M; Nicole cross-body bag in soft pink from Paul’s Boutique; maxi colourful silk scarves from Roeckl.
